What you need to know to talk to Europeans, Brits and others
- ggm 3y agoPerhaps it's changing, but nobody I know who is British thinks of themselves as a Brit. Where Australians do at times admit to being an Ozzie and New Zealanders a kiwi. My point is, some monikers are self assigned and some external and the Brit one, is just not how British people I know ideate themselves. Perhaps yank is the same? Or Canuck? Do foreigners know Yankee was once an insult? It's headline-ese. I hate it, as much as I hate Jap, Pak, Scotch and Jew used to identify Jewish people. A jew, singular fine. Jewish wine not Jew wine. Jap and Pak are other misnames. Its scot about a singular person and Scottish or Scots for anything else except the Scott monument. Some Indians might say indo-pak relations but "pak player scores century" is just trying to save letters in the headline. Btw that list is mostly real except "come to dinner" can actually be an invitation to dine.
