As a radio amateur substandard switch mode power supplies are a major source of annoyance in the amateur radio bands. Unfortunately you can't go and talk to your neighbours about it if the SMPS is in space :-( I feel a lot of sympathy for the radio astronomers - radio is very hard in this electrically noisy world, and the radio astronomers have some extremely sensitive equipment (much more sensitive than radio amateurs).
