Weird.
If these turn signals are hard to use, that's an argument for teaching them in driving school.
- itishappy 3y agoIt's hard to drive blindfolded, so I'm not sure if difficulty is the best indicator of usefulness.
- notaustinpowers 3y agoNot really. Why train students in a Tesla with steering wheel buttons for turn signals and expect them to understand how a turn signal stalk works? Training requires standards, not exceptions.
- BurningFrog 3y agoYou'd teach them both common signal UIs, of course.
- gambiting 3y agoThere has to be a line somewhere though, right? Like if the turn signals were hidden on the main touchscreen, under options->settings->turn signals left/right, we would conclude that this is an absolutely idiotic design that shouldn't be allowed on the road, not just say "weird, maybe they should just teach that if it's so hard"? The problem here is that you might have to use the turn signal mid-turn, and if the buttons are on the wheel it can be really confusing if not downright I possible to operate them when turning. Tesla isn't the first to do this - some Lambos/Ferraris also do this, good luck finding a single owner who doesn't hate it.
- BurningFrog 3y agoSure. Bad enough designs should not be allowed on the road. But that's not the issue here. These cars are allowed on the road in Norway. So traffic schools that only teach how to drive cars they like don't seem to serve their students well.
- bborud 3y agoIf they are not standardized and widely used, it isn't really all that useful to introduce yet another bit of complexity to what is usually going to be an already stressful activity (driving a car in traffic with very little experience).
