Perhaps but I don't recommend buying such a supermarket with a 44 billion dollar loan especially if you have to pay ~1B a year in interest on said loan as well.

Perhaps but I don't recommend buying such a supermarket with a 44 billion dollar loan especially if you have to pay ~1B a year in interest on said loan as well. Even without that loan thats over 6.6k years until ROI (and they still have regular operating costs not accounted for here).
Also that's less than half the active mastadon user count, and I'm skeptical that is enough users for it to maintain being worth 12$/y for that remaining user count. And any remaining advertising revenue would be decimated by such a low user count.

Furthermore, requiring payment for participation may very well raise the quality of discourse on the platform and make it more valuable as a result.
