There are two main reasons I know people behind the use acceleration for pots in midi controllers: - increase reactivity (small quick movement to cut frequencies faster for example) - low resolution of encoders (mostly for step ones) that do not cover the full range (especially 14bits) in a turn or 3/4 of a turn
