I was struggling to identify why this article felt short-sighted to me, and this is it: NYC has massive neighborhoods that could be rezoned into blocks of rowhouses, but are simply ignored because the subway doesn't reach them. If we're serious about building a dense New York that people want to live in for the next 500 years, then we should probably be looking at building another half dozen subway lines into Southern Brooklyn and Eastern Queens.
