APM is disabled on all HDDs because it just leads to delay and wear for mythological power savings that isn't going to happen in this setup. Note that SMART rarely/never predicts failures, but one of the strongest signals of drive failures is slightly elevated temperatures (usually as a result of bearing wear). This creates enough waste heat such that one room never needs heating, but cooling isn't strictly needed either because there's no point to reducing datacenter ambient below 27 C.
