about 10+ years ago I was asked to make a system that would give users the ability to get an email alert "whenever something happened on their server" Well users said they wanted it and welp when a user turned the feature on as asked they got a lot of emails... I think the disconnect isn't that we should give users what they ask but try and make something that can help their problem from their perspective. I've also been on product teams that would per se "we'll just make sure they won't need to be alerted if something happens on their server - we won't let it happen"
