- dash2 3y agoHonestly, takes like this give me an instant reaction: the author is nuts, and is trying to find likeminded nuts. I flee this stuff.
- anticensor 3y agoAnyone attending the 2023 version of the talk? Any differences from the 2022 version?
- edent 3y agoWhy do people rob banks? Because that's where the money is! Why do people post on forums? Because that's where the people are! Nothing's stopping you from copying your contributions over to your personal blog. But if you're worried about longevity, your personal site is also subject to the same pressures as the larger ones. Your domain might expire, your host might kick you off, the law might come after you.
- cyborgx7 3y agoThis is exactly it. The purpose of web forums is communication that you want to reach people right now (if you don't already have a well established platform). Most of it is information that, if it has any value at all (I think it does, but wanted to preempt snarky comments) it has the most value right now, and it diminishes rapidly as time passes. So having it be read by people right now is much higher priority than preservation for the future.
