The zeitgeist is changing. a romantic backlash to the tech era looms
- solardev 3y agoI wonder how much video games contribute to the cultural spread of these things. For example, my first exposures to druidry and shamanism were from Everquest and World of Warcraft. They probably also contributed to a resurgence in tabletop games and Dungeons and Dragons. As for manifestations and such, they're not that different from prayers, are they? Especially for lower status people with limited social and economic mobility, wishing something into reality is often the only thing they can actually do feel like they have some say in their lives. That's more a symptom of runaway capitalism than a tech backlash, IMO, though I guess the two are all too closely linked in this day and age. People always seem to turn to spirituality in times of crisis, and the young today have no shortage of crises to deal with, lol. Bombarded with political vitriol, culture wars, viruses, wars, homelessness, climate change, recessions... who wouldn't want to disconnect and quietly yearn for a better world, however imaginary?
