Instant Noodles Took over the World
- garciasn 3y ago> The two 70g packets consumed by Oguntoye in one sitting would equate to about 2,352mg of sodium – 118% of the World Health Organization’s recommended daily intake. These numbers include use of the seasoning packet. Without the seasoning, the sodium in the noodles is ~220mg in your average serving, which is WAY more in line with acceptable ranges. If you're eating them as a base for something else (like adding an egg or fish) and/or you have made your own broth or just use them sautéed, the sodium just isn't anywhere near the concern that the article states.
- jncfhnb 3y agoI’ll use the sodium pack to cook them and then dump the water. I’m not sure how much sodium that removes but I want to guess most of it?
- matt-attack 3y agoRight. I never understood this. Do people drink all the broth? I would always just eat the noodles and dump the broth. Figured I’m only getting a fraction of the seasoning that way.
- deodar 3y agoMaggi noodles are ubiquitous in India. Two generations of Indian kids have grown up eating them and the ads aggressively targeted kids. In my generation, most Indian origin adults still love it and consider it an occasional indulgence, knowing how unhealthy they are. Even the recent finding that Maggi noddles have egregious levels of lead [1] has not dented their popularity one bit. 1. https://recipes.timesofindia.com/us/articles/features/maggi-has-poisonous-lead-in-it-admits-nestl-after-sc-ruling/photostory/67381858.cms https://recipes.timesofindia.com/us/articles/features/maggi-...
