I was shocked: my husband was using AI to write our children's bedtime stories
- coldtea 3y agoToday in "Things that never happened, but were deemed good for a Guardian article considering the Guardian middle class readership".
- magicalhippo 3y agoSure about that? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34514480 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34514480
- coldtea 3y agoI'm pretty user it didn't happen to the TFA writer.
- hennell 3y agoI'm curious as to which of the many fantastical elements of this tale you consider most unbelievable? Someone using chat gpt for a kids bedtime story? The idea an authors kids might like a bedtime tale based on their own ideas? Does a kids author never let their less imaginative spouse take over bedtime duties as condition of employment?
- coldtea 3y agoIt strikes me as an article "plot device", with contrived details.
- thebruce87m 3y agoIt may not have happened, but kids do ask for these things and expect you to come up with them on the spot, especially if you’ve just told them something similar. You tell them a joke you heard about monkeys and it’s “make up another funny monkey joke”.
- dudul 3y agoMight be true, might not be. But I sure am tired of these "articles" that are in between a very very long tweet and a teenager diary.
- RecycledEle 3y agoAccording to the author, the second grader is into Swiss Family Robinson, the 4-year-old likes "Frozen and Make it Funny," and the 2-year-old likes the pictures on "Goodnight Moon." Let's fact-check that.
- RecycledEle 3y agoSwiss Family Robinson is for ages 9-14. Frozen is for ages 4-8. Goodnight Moon is for ages 1-4.
- idonotknowwhy 3y agoCreating stories for my son based on his silly ideas was my main use case for gpt3 when it first came out. He loved it so much he draw a picture of a person with a computer screen as a head the next day. What's unbelievable about the article
- tamimio 3y agoAnd why is that shocking?! So using technology now is taboo? Ok then don’t print the coloring book and draw it by hands, don’t print cartoons decorations and learn how to draw and then draw it yourself.. list goes on, technology been and will always be an assistant tool in every day life.
- RecycledEle 3y agoThere are so many people in this world who do not know the basics of prompting LLM AIs, and have given up on them. In a way it's like if Scotty from Star Trek walked up to a Mac, spoke to it, got no response, and then gave up on computers.
- Apocryphon 3y agoIf? That's what literally happened.
