I don't rent music from iTunes at all. Once I purchase it and the bits are on my hard drive I can back them up as I please, I can listen to them as I please and since they don't have DRM I can share them however I want. If iTunes were to shut down tomorrow all of my music purchased from iTunes would continue to function.
