You forget that these large corporations invest heavily in REIT's. It's not just their own RE they care about. They want to prop up the entire industry.
Also, with soft layoffs, they don't have to pay severance. People who rage-quit due to RTO aren't eligible for severance or unemployment insurance.
- marcus0x62 3y agoCitation on that, please. I've never heard of these "large corporations" investing...at all...let alone "heavily" in REITs.
- sydbarrett74 3y agoI should have qualified. Large corporations don't tend to manage investments in REIT's directly. The funds in which they invest have in turn invested in REIT's. So if the finance guys at Company X are used to sweet overall returns, they don't want their fund managers pulling out of REIT's unless there's a damn good reason to do so.
- solumunus 3y ago> You forget that these large corporations invest heavily in REIT's. Do they? That would surprise me. Any evidence for that?
- sydbarrett74 3y agoThe evidence is abundant. A quick Google search will deliver. I'm not doing your homework for you. Large companies invest in high-return industries, which CRE was for a long time. How is any of this controversial or surprising?
- solumunus 3y agoI’m not saying they don’t invest in them but if those investments make up more than a small % of their net assets I would be surprised.
- sydbarrett74 3y agoAt the scale of a FAANG, even 1% is still a lot of money.
- muttled 3y ago> People who rage-quit due to RTO aren't eligible for severance or unemployment insurance. If you're being forced to RTO and that's not feasible, make them fire you. You'll hold onto that job longer as they go through the process and then you can likely succeed in an unemployment claim. It's harder to fight if you quit, but you could claim constructive dismissal if there was an explicit agreement to work remote.
- VirusNewbie 3y agoYour argument is that you think FAANG companies are heavily invested in REITs, and would sacrifice their core revenue stream to support that amount?
- sydbarrett74 3y agoFAANG companies are full of sunk-cost thinking.
