How is this a "conspiracy theory?" Some of the largest companies in North America are intertwined with real estate one way or another (sunk billions into constructing one or more HQs, investment, etc.) This becomes worthless if they're vacant.
As another commenter said, it's incredibly difficult to measure productivity. Large enterprises care more about their balance sheets and stock prices, hence decisions are made that provide immediate fiscal relief despite obvious long-term implications. Aggressive RTO mandates have led to an exodus of top performers in my company; many core teams are worse off than before, but all the executives care about is budget.
- marcus0x62 3y agoIt's a conspiracy theory because every time RTO comes up in discussion, these assertions of, well, a conspiracy, to artificially inflate the value of CRE by forcing workers to go to the office get trotted out with absolutely no evidence to back them up.
- richbell 3y agoThat doesn't make it a conspiracy theory anymore than saying large companies participating in union-busting is a conspiracy theory. To quote the late George Carlin "you don't need a formal conspiracy when interests converge."
- aurareturn 3y agoIt's not a conspiracy theory. It's just a really bad theory with no evidence and that makes no sense.
- marcus0x62 3y agoIt’s a really bad theory with no evidence about people engaging in a conspiracy… That makes it a conspiracy theory.
- VirusNewbie 3y agoYou think the companies that do rigorous performance reviews, regularly fire people for performance reasons from executives down to interns, and provide insanely lucrative compensation packages don't care about 'productivity', and instead just choose to invest in more tangible results? Why would these companies we're talking about spend so much money compensating employees and firing bad ones if it doesn't matter?
