When the metric is "return on investment" let me assure you that all the PE investors, execs, managers, individuals involved are only looking to eek out more profit - quarter after quarter. If it ever comes down to helping a patient (or employee) vs a quarter with lower than expected growth, they will predictably not help the patient (or employee) in favor of meeting that quarter's target.
