I've often wondered why mono LCD projectors aren't more common - it seems like they'd be easier to make by a nontrivial amount and allow higher brightness/efficiency. I guess it's a matter of market scale as usual, or maybe I just don't know the right search keywords. (You do see mono LCDs nowadays in SLA 3d printers though.)
