Perhaps but I think you shouldn’t feel you were disqualified because you missed the GitHub projects. Stating that you are a father is an honest answer and also sets the expectations on whether you are going to pull all nighters or your dedication matches a fresh grad. As a fellow father I would rather there is an honest match than be surprised half way into onboarding with the stress that ensues. I try to focus on being the candidate that knows their thing and that will improve the software quality so there are no all nighters. Employers value that and it is something I know I can show up as an advantage. Recommendations mentioning that, help.
