What is Festivus? (And how to celebrate with the rest of us)
- rawgabbit 3y agoIts origin story dates back to George’s youth when Frank went to the store to buy a doll for his son. Another father was reaching for the same toy — the last on the shelf — leading Frank to “rain blows upon him … I realized there must be another way.” Do you have your aluminum pole? What about your grievances? Do you have them written down so you can air them at the proper time? Have you been in training for the feats of strength? Do you have the meatloaf prepared?

- krapp 3y agoI love that this one-off gag from a pre-internet sitcom has persisted so long in popular culture, fueled by the spite that so many of us have for the Christmas season and its cloying, empty vulgarity.
- sphars 3y agoThere is a recent episode of Jason Alexander's (who played George Costanza) podcast, Really? No, Really, where they interview Dan O'Keefe[0]. O'Keefe's childhood experiences with his father's Festivus traditions were what inspired the Seinfeld episode, where O'Keefe was a writer. He said that making an episode about Festivus wasn't expecting to go anywhere and we're so surprised how popular it became.
