Eric's Ocean Institute has been building drones for years, and they have these massive vessels to map the ocean floor.
I wonder when they find a major site, if it will be a billionaire's boooty bounty - or if the public will ever hear about it?
If one were a billionaire with a big boat, I'd be going after buying up, scanning and gpting the heck out of every historic maritime map, logbook etc and build the most plausible wreckage locations, as overlayed through myth, legend and literature through the ages.
Drop deep sea drone with GPR to scan such routes.
I knew a guy who worked in Schmidt's ocean drone facility in Alameda, and went there once and saw the drones...
Don't know if those had GPR, but I am sure he has plenty that do.
Imagine an analysis of all historic maritime data to build an idea of all last known locations of ships, then knowing their physical makeup such that one might be able to model the debris field size based on a ship sinking in that location - then scanning that region with your GPR drones.
