- cl42 3y agoIn Feb 2022, Meta hosted "Inside the Lab"[1], a day-long webinar series outlining their vision for mixed reality, AI, etc. I highly recommend anyone interested in Meta's vision and work to watch these. Zuckerberg's demos and the AI leadership team discussions are SO INCREDIBLY CONSISTENT over the years. They are clearly executing on something very big, with quite a bit of alignment across researchers, engineers, and product managers. That webinar really changed my perspective on Meta's vision for AI and AR (or MR, I guess). The article posted here also emphasizes this consistency. Huge respect for anyone who can pull this off. Clearly? Why should we not rather assume it is some death march led by Zuckerberg and any non team-players are left in the ditch along the way?
- edmundsauto 3y agoWhere is the evidence for the alternate assumption? There does appear to be quite a bit of alignment as GP said.
- screye 3y agoMeta's bipolar switch from social media into VR then out of VR and into AI is anything but consistent. The bits and pieces might have been in place for years, but their prioritization and leadership thrust is clearly all over the place.
- gloryjulio 3y agoThat's correct. But given their company size, they do have sizable investment in every sector in parallel as you mentioned.
- boppo1 3y agoWith all the recent stuff in gaussian splats and the SMERF demos, I'm wondering if the 'content problem'[0] of VR is suddenly much closer to being solved. [0] Right now it's very expensive to make good 3d assets.

- ilrwbwrkhv 3y agoFacebook will never ever make a popular physical device. It's simply not in their DNA.
- LanzVonL 3y agoThey need some good exclusive games. Nobody's buying these headsets because there's no compelling use case. And nobody wants to wear goggles to work in a virtual cubicle either.
- tylergetsay 3y agoThese glasses don't have a screen, just camera and speaker
