There's been a guy on Twitter for years posting picture after picture of Tesla "wompy wheels" where you can see the suspension snapped in some minor fender bender. There's no way that NHTSA and NTSB haven't known about this for a long time, they have moonlighting amateurs doing their work for them. I don't know. Some of these cars are built in a tent. The quality issues really shouldn't surprise anyone.
