- coldtea 3y ago"The company’s own child-safety experts sounded the alarm about efforts to encrypt messages on Instagram and Facebook. This month, it started doing it anyway." This is so disingenuous, in the cliche "think of the children" way, as if encryption and privacy is merely a tool for "child predators", that reads like a Bond villain sponsored article against user privacy.
- boh 3y ago"Don't think of the children" is the more popular opinion out of Silicon Valley and it definitely shows. At this point who actually believes Meta is concerned about your privacy. It's cover for litigation and to further distance itself from responsibility of how people use their site.
- coldtea 3y ago>"Don't think of the children" is the more popular opinion out of Silicon Valley Only when it comes to pushing BS content to children and hooking them. When it comes to end-to-end encryption, they start to "think of the children" as it stops them from mining user communications. So if Meta uncharacteristically appears to be pro-E2E-encryption here, it is for some ulterior motive (such as the "cover for litigation and to further distance itself from responsibility of how people use their site" you've mentioned), and not following their usual m.o. and profit motives.
