The last few times I've been through Schiphol those machines were turned off. I don't have a huge problem with the government doing the facial recognition. But

The last few times I've been through Schiphol those machines were turned off. I don't have a huge problem with the government doing the facial recognition. But recently I boarded a plane using facial recognition. How did the airline know who I was? Presumably they got the info from the government. But why is the government giving that info out?
