Has Twitter (now X) become more right-wing?

- paulpauper 3y agoDespite the changes, the site still leans heavily Democratic. The party’s senators have 50% more followers than their Republican counterparts (though that is well below the 85% lead they had in October 2022.) But these may be bot followers. In terms of actual human engagement, I see a definite right-wing bias. It seems like the stuff that goes viral and is algothrimically- recommended on Twitter leans right or center-right.
- rsynnott 3y ago> In terms of actual human engagement, I see a definite right-wing bias. That may be partially due to the promotion of the blueticks, who seem to be predominantly, well, either crypto scammers or weird Musk fans.
- laweijfmvo 3y agois it really fair to make judgements based on what “you see”? you must be seeing well under 1% of twitter traffic, no?
- paulpauper 3y agobut isn't the whole article just a giant hunch anyway? its methodology of looking at follower counts is flawed to begin with due to bots
- AnimalMuppet 3y agoCouldn't the "actual human engagement" also be bots? Or at least troll farms?
- bediger4000 3y agoInconceivable. Elon bought Twitter to take care of the bots.
- passwordoops 3y agoOff-topic but if every reference to your new brand has to include the old brand, you probably shouldn't have rebranded
- sillywalk 3y agoAlso, telling your biggest source of revenue to "Fuck Off" and that hope they stop advertising is probably not a good idea either.
- ksaj 3y agoEspecially since the change was more than a year ago. I'm sure everyone still uses the twitter domain as well. And it's clear that people are still using the word 'tweets' (although xeets and xcreets are more appropriate for meeting the new name)

- sarcasmatwork 3y agoLess censorship by the left/MSM/Biden admin.. I don't know how that is right wing. The twitter files proved this was a fact.
- ggm 3y agoHow could anyone tell, objectively without being under an NDA to X, because the api access to information is neither cheap nor ubiquitous. Sampling error is huge in this. Surveys of newspaper editorial policy are notoriously subjective, the Glasgow media group got pasted for an overt Marxist analysis during the thatcher years, ignoring what ground truths it exposed because of perceptions of bias in their intent and they were quite rigorous and peer reviewed.

- bediger4000 3y agoMore right wing or not, The Algorithm certainly puts a whole lot more ads on your timeline, and scammy ads at that.
- sidibe 3y agoThe people buying blue checks are mostly more right wing, so the tweets you are likely to see are definitely more right wing
