$6 billion to continue operating. I wonder how much it would cost to cover the adjacent area in solar panels and sodium storage batteries of the equivalent capacity?
- PaulHoule 3y agoDiablo Canyon is right next to the beautiful Montana de Oro nature preserve https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=592 https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=592 and has land of similar quality around it. Environmentalists would probably get in the way of clearing the land for solar panels. A good rule of thumb is that a nuclear reactor makes about $500 million a year worth of electricity, Diablo has 2 so it is economic to spend 6 billion to get another 6 years of life out of it.
