37signals: Five big open source gifts from us
- mdaniel 3y ago> This means we can release new features on the web that’s instantly available with native controls on the apps, without having to wait for App Store approval. It’s a big win in terms of mobile productivity. I'm surprised Apple (or Play?) allowed that. It must be a full time job keeping up with all the rules for what's allowed versus not with submitted apps
- impulser_ 3y agoIt has always been allowed because you're not sending a new package of your app to Apple or Google to review. The app is just a web view to your website and you're updating the website.
- bdcravens 3y agoAll good projects, but seems a bit gratuitous to refer to them as "gifts from us", even if that's what open source effectively is. Each of those projects has commits from non-37signalers.
- mattbrewsbytes 3y agoI think any company that allows staff to carve out what would be normally work "hours" to contribute to open source is a gift. They don't have to do that at all but DHH and folks there are big proponents of open source.
