If they don't want to accept your auto-packaged debs, you could set up your own repository, and auto-push them there.. That way people could pull in the Ruby Gems from there on a regular basis, as soon as they are auto-updated, without waiting for them to be released officially.
Debian team policy:

They're basically just tarballs with a pre and postscript, questions via debconf, and the dependencies mapped out in a manifest.
- drnic 18y agoThx for the links. I've pinged the pkg-ruby-extras mailing list for help too.
- e1ven 18y agoJust for the sake of anyone in the future who is reading this thread, two more links- http://pkg-ruby-extras.alioth.debian.org http://pkg-ruby-extras.alioth.debian.org http://github.com/fidothe/dpkg-tools/tree/master http://github.com/fidothe/dpkg-tools/tree/master
- nailer 18y agoJust wanted to say thanks. Similar issues years ago were sorted by cpam2rpm years and the Java Packaging Project. I'd love to have proper packages for Gems.
