Late in the thread but this may not be a good thing. I already can't use rustc or golang from distros because they can't keep up with the latest versions of these languages that are being released evey few months. I have a system now where much to my shock I am getting rid of gcc because it is not needed but keeping upstream golang and rust for updating existing software, which is by the way a nightmare when I updated golang few months back for a CVE and had like four places where the go based apps stored their own go environment.
