Notebook based computing isn't something that's known for great reproducibility in general. It's great for data exploration, but interactions between cells and the high potential for hidden variables makes reproducibility difficult. If you want truly reproducible notebooks, you need to re-run the entire thing fresh... and adding a caching layer doesn't remove this requirement. It can make the iterative process better, but notebooks that can run cells out of order (or run adhoc commands) mean that you can't really have reproducibility unless you are running it top-down from an empty environment.
