California's DMV Lets Drivers Use Sticker-Like License Plates
- gnicholas 3y agoThis is interesting — I knew people who had license plate stickers but didn't realize it was possible to get them officially. An acquaintance had one one her Tesla and she said that she got it online a couple years ago. It sounds like there are multiple vendors that sell them, even though only one sells them officially (my friend had hers before the pilot launched). I wonder if there's any practical way to tell the difference between the official versions and knockoffs, without resorting to running the plates (which might show whether the DMV has a vinyl plate on record) or pulling over the vehicle to ask for the official letter that the article mentions. I assume a lot of people will buy from unofficial sources if the risk of getting caught is low, in order to save the $130 additional fee.
