Tiny Code Christmas
- TwentyPosts 3y agoDamn, I wish I had known about this earlier.
- codetrotter 3y agoYou can start at any time
- manicennui 3y agoI submitted it, but it wasn't upvoted.
- musicale 3y agoToo bad - this looks really fun!
- dave84 3y agoThanks for posting! I tried a Show HN and it got nowhere.
- stevekemp 3y agoIt was also submitted last year - I thought it looked familiar! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34010980 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34010980
- jtruk 3y agoFor anyone who did it last year, please take a look again - there's a whole load of new expert challenges and extra effect tutorials to try.
- Woeps 3y agoooh this looks excellent fun, thanks for posting!
- dave84 3y agoThanks for posting, if anyone has any questions about Tiny Code Christmas, feel free to ask. It's not too late to start, there's no time limit. It's all very informal so you can start anytime and the videos and website will stay up. Checkout #lovebytetcc on Mastodon to see what people are up to, the discord is also very welcoming and active if people are stuck and need help.
- woolion 3y agoThat looks quite cool, I had been thinking about a way to get into byte sized programming. How much time should be dedicated each day to complete it?
- dave84 3y agoHighly variable based on your previous programming experience but it’s designed to not take up too much of your time.
- jtruk 3y agoI'd say that if you have some programming experience, about half an hour would be reasonable to implement and understand each tutorial - but there's a lot more to be had squeezing or polishing if you have the time. Also, it doesn't matter if you do some late, or decide to skip any.
- 12_throw_away 3y agoThis looks great, will probably take a stab at this with TIC-80 right after I hit "submit" here. BUT ALSO: I've also been curious about the Uxn/Varvara stack for a while, too. Do you happen to know how well these challenges would translate to that stack?
- dave84 3y agoThe creator of Uxn/Varvara is actually doing TCC again this year and they have published code so you can take a look. Lots of approximations for avoiding square roots and trig. Good discussion on the discord about it.
- jtruk 3y agoHighly recommended! I found Tiny Code Christmas last year. It was easier for me to get into than other code advent series, and introduced me to active participation in the demoscene, which I'd admired since the Amiga days. I continued on, and it's been an extremely enriching - and slightly consuming - hobby for me this year, with a wonderful, supportive community. As folks have said, you can start any time. If you hop on now (you can still start with Day 1) then post your stuff to your preferred social network (#lovebyteTCC) - Lovebyte (and friends) will appreciate your creations. There are some folks who are going hard on sizecoding, but it's also an opportunity to get inspired and just play to make the prettiest thing you can. Thanks for your hard work on this, @dave84!
