Humans have a soul as per Catholic theology and therefore human blessings carry far more weight.
The issue here, theologically, is that Catholics believe that marriage and sex are both for procreation. That's a core tenant, and same sex couples cannot procreate.
EDIT: I think that the Church accepting that same sex couples can have blessings and a life filled with love and togetherness is still important. And I also think that's mostly what (Catholic) same-sex couples want.
- gjsman-1000 3y agoI completely agree, which is why more conservative Catholics, and myself reading what the Church teaches, don't think this makes any pastoral sense. If it was about blessing the people, why not pull them aside individually? Much less confusing.

- dragontamer 3y ago> although in a union that cannot be compared in any way to a marriage, desire to entrust themselves to the Lord and his mercy, to invoke his help, and to be guided to a greater understanding of his plan of love and of truth This fine print? It seems to be a blessing over the love they share, even if we cannot give them formal marriage rites.
- neverartful 3y agoI think you meant core 'tenet'.
