Humans, not climate change, explain late Pleistocene megafauna collapse
- happytiger 3y agoAnd likely the current collapse as well.
- Qem 3y agoPerhaps that explains why it took over 100.000 years between anatomically modern humans first appearance and technological development past stone age. For many millennia, ours ancestors didn't really feel the need for advanced tech. They just feasted on the big beasts that evolved before. But then they crashed their environment, erradicating the megafauna. Hunger ensued for many groups, and just then they really felt pressed to domesticate crops, to compensate for the now extincted calories. Our higher tech level was necessary to keep living in a world we managed to wreck previously using only stone-age tools.
