"According to a recent report of 750 business leaders using AI from ResumeBuilder, 37% say the technology replaced workers in 2023. Meanwhile, 44% report that there will be layoffs in 2024 resulting from AI efficiency."
These are specific enough to be credible. If you talk to leaders in customer service / call center operations, they've been planning this for years.
Is this creating some new AI jobs? Sure. But that's a separate issue because peopel who are getting laid off aren't the ones taking up those new jobs.
The layoff has been happening.
Over 240 workers in a call center were laid off this week in KB Bank (a Korean bank) because AI-based consultation tool reduced call center volume by 20%.
Plenty of real life examples happening across the globe.
