Anecdotally I've used that phone caseless for 4 years and was never able to reproduce the issue, nor do I know about it affecting anyone I know. It's weird. But anyway, iPhone 4 became an incredibly popular phone, so the problem (while obviously existant) couldn't have been that widespread.
