Biggest takeaways for me:
* The papers and research that will be considered most important 10-20 years down the road, with the benefit of hindsight, are not necessarily those that receive the most attention today.
* Be skeptical of any comments about other authors' research that look, smell, or taste like negative or positive propaganda. Read the work yourself, and make up your own mind as to what will stand the test of time.
- bglazer 3y agoI’m not necessarily disagreeing, but I remember word2vec being a big deal when it was introduced. In particular the “king-man=queen” example was mind blowing to everyone I talked to and it was widely referenced as illustrating the power of neural language representations.
