I am reading recent reports about the functioning of Bing Chat, the integration between GPT4 and Bing search engine. It seems that this "new generation of search engines" is polluting trustworthy sources introducing factual errors when summarizing articles about sensitive topics like elections.
The most concerning thing is that Microsoft is aware of the problem, and it seems to not be able to fix it.
Can someone point me some good arguments saying why this Generative Search Engines can be a step forward in accessing information on the web and not a (very costly and energy consuming) step back for the information ecosystem?
I don't understand if I am too pessimistic or if they are actually selling something that is not going to work for such tasks, because of its stochastic structure, and there is nothing they can do to fix it.

- onias 3y agoYes, but Bing Chat is misquoting sources: it is not about judgment or being unbiased, it is about correctly reporting what is contained in the sources it quotes in the chat's summary. The chatbot is unable to copy-paste the results of a poll, even if the pool is not accurate in the first place, inventing new percentages is not helping in any form. And the question remains: is it possible to fix this type of mistakes? I would be happy to know if someone has a strategy to fix this that is feasible.
