Some parts sounded like you were talking about me! :-) Its funny, how many technologists play with stuff on the side, derive learnings from these experiences and end up bring something helpful, even valuable to their professional jobs...but employers sometimes - at least in some of my cases - disparages such efforts, or often block such enthusiasm. Then again, maybe i'm just working for the wrong kinds of orgs. ;-) I'm glad that you have been able to reap the benefits of the knock-on effect; kudos to you!
