Can anybody find the part of the text of the legislation that requires transmission?
Skimming the table of contents and looking through SEC. 31406. VEHICLE EVENT DATA RECORDERS I couldn't find it. I could only find requirements to record data, not transmit it.
- tptacek 15y agoIt doesn't require transmission ("(4) may require an interoperable data access port to facilitate universal accessibility and analysis.", as you saw) --- but note that if you're worried that the government might try to slip medium-range RF into the recorder standard, there's a Rulemaking procedure yet to come that could mandate wireless access to the boxes. Which doesn't mean "start hyperventilating", of course.
