The current generation of language models is only rewarded for how well it can mimic human communication. There is no incentive for innovation. Give it a few generations and we'll add that. A current model could already run a chain of "what if" scenarios and grade the results for how unique and how beneficial they are. Supercharge that and you'll probably end up with something useful. Everything is a remix.
