OpenAI to pay Politico parent for using its content
- 0xjmp 3y agoHappy to see publishers getting paid! But definitely unsure what this means for society long-term.
- albert180 3y agoAxel Springer is German Fox News. This is very bad news unless you want Tay 2.0
- paxys 3y agoAI companies pay media companies for content to train their LLMs on. Media companies use LLMs to generate more content. What do we do once all the pre-LLM original content on the internet has been used up?
- redbell 3y agoWhat about the other publishers whose content was used to train the model?
- hhs 3y agoIf interested, News Corp. is discussing this more broadly, too: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/news-corp-generative-ai-licensing-1235643502/amp/ https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/new...
- htk 3y agoIt's an interesting problem that I don't know how's going to be solved longterm: a person can read a website and learn from it, but an AI can't? I sympathize with the arguments from both sides. One downside I see with the money route is that it is another moat for the big guys doing AI.
- anon373839 3y ago> a person can read a website and learn from it, but an AI can't I personally think this framing creates a false problem by anthropomorphizing the technology. Neural network weights aren’t people; they are a mathematically transformed copy of the training data.
