Really is an Open Web still plausible? In the beginning the web was 'Open' however, as companies become involved in for-profit ventures...isn't the closing of the web almost akin to natural evolution?
Part of the problem is it's border-less-nature but I can't help but feel that the only reason the internet is appearing to no longer be 'Open' is simply because we are finally coming into a point where companies aren't still in the adoption phase (ie. 90's). Instead the evolution is leading the web into a series of closed walls...but is that necessarily 'incorrect & unwanted'?
I suppose the real issue however has to do with the way the internet connects, and property / patent rights, than so much it becoming clusters of kingdoms. Clusters would be fine, as long as the 'core' of how the internet is engineered stays open source.
