The web floods
- mplewis 3y agoI’ve already started seeing the negative impact of GPT on the web. I keep finding oddly specific articles about the exact character or plot line I want to learn about from a story or game, but the content is all word salad.
- sogen 3y agoSo the solution will be to ask ChatGPT to summarize all these ChatGPT-generated articles and movies into a 2 line sentence…
- gdsdfe 3y agoI'm not buying the argument that everything AI generated is crap, I mean sure there's a lot of that and most definitely even more in the future but I believe that AI + <insert any job title> is a killer combo and that goes for journalists too.
- voidhorse 3y agoimo it's really contingent on your level of expertise in the domain. If I use AI to help generate content about a subject I know next-to-nothing about, I usually find it's pretty good, largely because I have no idea what good really means for the domain and it passes the bar for me as a lay person. Whenever I use it for content related to an area I know a lot about the result is pretty much still trash level stuff that I could have done a better job producing myself. If nothing else, it will always be derivative.
- jjdeveloper 3y agoThis feels like it was written by AI
- mplewis 3y agoNo it doesn’t.
- terminous 3y agoStop. This kind of low effort comment needs to be a violation of HN rules, because it never contributes to the discussion. See to me personally, I don't think this feels like it was written by AI. But this isn't going to be a productive topic of discussion.
- jschveibinz 3y agoI honestly believe that because things are changing so quickly, we have a problem extrapolating the "synthesis" that will be possible with AI. AI won't be able to report alone--not yet--but it will make reporting much easier and faster and stylistically interesting for the best writers. I believe that investments in AI made by companies can have more to do with the increased productivity and quality of top talent rather than the replacement of mediocre talent with mediocre stories. This improves customer value, and this increases the bottom line. I also believe that AI will eventually be about private, continuously updated LLM's that are "tuned" to the specific needs of a company--relevant to its product or service. Right now, we are toying with generic LLM's that are trained on data that > 2-3 years old. That will change very soon.
