Flattr did this, I saw a few sites with it enabled around when it launched, in 2010 apparently. If i remember you could click a link on an article that had it enabled, which was recorded. Then, weekly/monthly funds were distributed from a pool you had added to the service, to get around the cost of making individual micro payments. Apparently it's now owned by Adblock Plus and is hooked in to their compensation thing.
