Could you show me the cancer rates of non-eaters?
- philwelch 3y agoIt’s probably extremely low, since they don’t tend to live long enough to develop cancer.
- anothernewdude 3y agoI think it's extremely high, since many cancer treatments suppress appetite.
- philwelch 3y agoAh, good point.
- taneq 3y agoAlmost zero, naturally Big Food suppresses these kinds of results though. /s
- willy_k 3y agoUltra processed foods, which are a large part of many people’s diets, definitely cause cancer[0]. [0]https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37087831/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37087831/
- taneq 3y agoWhile not directly what we were talking about, this is also true. :/
- willy_k 3y agoYeah my bad, it originally had a comment on the multiple jokes seeming to mock a valid claim, though I now get that those were mostly in response to the broadness of “food”.
- taneq 3y agoNah you still make a good point IMO, it’s very easy to fall into the trap of a false dichotomy between “eat as much as you want of whatever you want forever” vs. “never eating again because food is cancer”. The post I responded to did this and I unthinkingly followed their lead for more laughs. It was still funny but thinking more about it as well is always good.
