For that to really work I'd imagine the people using your API would need to be able to monetize? So you're basically shifting the challenge of turning users into value to a 3rd party. I don't have anything to back this up other than a gut feeling, but to pull it off I think you'd need another order of magnitude worth of users, or some data that's exceptionally compelling to 3rd party developers. (Maybe fandalism does have this? Alot of people seem to have interesting ideas on what to do with that many bands and fans in one place)
