The things I've read about happening in Gaza are horrific.
I'm ashamed that my taxes are funding this. It doesn't feel like there's much that can be done to change that. AIPAC has a very serious influence on our government and I worry that its impact is just leading to more deaths and more suffering.
- blaufast 3y agoSame. Then reminds me that the creation of the United States was based on strategic, coordinated genocide and I feel even worse.

- skyyler 3y agoCan you give more information about what you mean? Are you calling UN humanitarian aid some kind of "bankroll"? That feels disingenuous at best...

- srackey 3y agoWhy is Israel’s reaction worse? They seem to be reacting to an unprovoked attack by an openly genocidal neighbor with a pretty big-standard conventional war to eliminate the problem regime. I’m not saying that Israel couldn’t be more mindful of optics or civilian casualties, but how is this war not justified?

- blast 3y agoIt's a question of proportionality. Some responses are justified, others not. The question is whether the current response is justified or excessive. One can deplore Oct 7 without calling it unprovoked. This conflict goes a long way back.
- kelseyfrog 3y agoThat's interesting. Do you have any thoughts on Nakba-denialism?
- amanaplanacanal 3y agoThis war didn’t start on September 7th. It’s been going on longer than any of us have been alive. The atrocities on both sides are horrible, and I feel sorry for the civilians on both sides who are just trying to live their lives. Unfortunately the Israeli government has all the power here, and they have been completely unable to find a solution over, now, decades. The blockade of Gaza and expanding settlements in the West Bank are just continually stirring the pot. That government, and Hamas, both have to go.
- acdha 3y ago> Unfortunately the Israeli government has all the power here, and they have been completely unable to find a solution over, now, decades Unable, or unwilling. The most damaging political assassination in history after Franz Ferdinand was probably when Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated because he was too close to a peace treaty.

- jhallenworld 3y agoThere is one thing you can do as a tax payer: go on strike. Think of what effect this would have on the federal government's tax revenue as well as the effect on the rich and powerful's incomes if half the country did this. I bring it up because of this news story: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/dec/11/gaza-israel-ceasefire-new-jersey-general-strike https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/dec/11/gaza-israel-...
- emmelaich 3y agoYour comment is ambiguous. The USA has been a major donor to aid for Gaza. But I suspect you're referring to aid to Israel.
