Showstopper: Nobody is writing new operating systems any more
- bobajeff 3y agoIt's rare for something as popular as Linux, NT, BSD or XNU to come along but just because they aren't widespread and popular doesn't mean nobody is writing them.
- rzzzwilson 3y agoPlan 9 [0]. Didn't gain traction because Unix/Linux is "good enough". It improves on Linux but isn't enough of an improvement to make a difference. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_9_from_Bell_Labs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_9_from_Bell_Labs
- mikewarot 3y agoGenode[1] is slowly approaching the point at which I can use it as a daily driver. I hope it makes it before Windows 10 goes away. It will be nice to never have to work about viruses, or spyware, etc., any more. It'll be like a trip back to the free spirited days of DOS and write protected floppy boot disks. The OS won't give away anything by default, so you can run anything you want, risk free. 8) [1] https://genode.org/ https://genode.org/
