Car wars: A flood of cheap Chinese imports upsets the global industrial order
- cf100clunk 3y agoSmith's cogent analysis seems to boil down to ''Basically, China is flooding Europe with electric cars.'' So, the global angle is that Europe is faced with using trade controls like tariffs to shield its own manufacturers, many of which are joined at the hip with the large U.S. automakers. The risk to Europe, and by extension the U.S.A., is Chinese dominance of the industry.
- sam_goody 3y agoIs it true that it is cheaper to ship a car from China to to Europe or the States than for a local manufacturer to ship internally in either? I know for a long time the rest of the developed world was paying all of China's shipping costs, which massively helped them along. Don't know if that is also a factor.
